Lessons Learned From Facebook
You can learn a lot on Facebook. I was reading a post on a Facebook group the
other day; a gentleman was asking if anyone could use him for some odd jobs
around the house, because he needed some money to pay for medical bills. His son was bit by the neighbor’s dog and he
had to take his son to the emergency room.
I messaged the gentleman to explain that he should call the neighbor’s
insurance company because the liability on the home policy would pay for the
injuries. His response was that the
neighbors were renters and didn’t have renter’s insurance; he also wrote that
the insurance company of the home owner wouldn’t
pay either because it’s not their responsibility. It is a sad situation that this gentleman has
to pay the medical bill due to someone else’s negligence.
Even if you’re just renting, having renters insurance is very
important. It covers your personal items
in the event of your items being stolen, burnt in a fire, or any covered loss. It also covers your liability; in this case
the renter’s liability would have covered the medical bills for the dog bite. Liability insurance
also could cover you in case your
kids do something to injure someone. The
gentleman mentioned above has every right to take the renter of the house to
court and force him to pay the medical bills.
If he does so, and wins in court, he can go after the renter’s bank
accounts, future wages, or any assets.
Most renter’s insurance start under $20* a month and usually
gives you a discount on your auto insurance.
It’s a no brainer, get renter’s insurance and get a little peace of
mind.
